Amid spiking coronavirus cases, airports had a surge in travelers over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The Transportation Security Administration reported that more than 1 million passengers were processed through its checkpoints on the busy travel days of Wednesday and Sunday.
This represents the fourth and fifth times that more than 1 million people have passed through TSA checkpoints since the pandemic began in March. The increase in traffic came despite alarming rates of infection – a reflection of the exhaustion that Americans have with the virus and their desperation to return to some sort of pre-pandemic normality.
With the surge in people congregating for the Thanksgiving holiday, the next two weeks will reveal if infections have a commensurate rise. And this comes as the year-end holidays approach.
